January News
This month's blog is a little late in the month. I have been too busy and time has gotten away from me. Hope everyone had a great Christmas! We are getting back into the swing of things at school. At the first of the month, we set goals and made a cute bulletin board with all of our goals. We have also decorated the school with some huge, amazing snowflakes. I just finished DIBLES testing with all the students. DIBLES is a reading test, required by the state, to be administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. I am excited about the reading scores and hope that they continue to go up by the end of the year. Also, report cards will be ready by the first of next week. Look for them in your students' homework bags.
We would like to welcome Ms. Gibbs back to the school. We are excited to have her back with us. She is a wonderful teacher and the students love her.
This week, we will be celebrating our 100th Day of School! As part of our celebration, we are having fun days all week. The schedule for fun week is as follows:
Tuesday, January 24th - Crazy Day (wear crazy clothes and crazy hair)
Wednesday, January 25th - Piute Day (wear Piute clothes or blue and red)
Thursday, January 26th - Pajama Day (wear your pajamas and slippers)
Friday, January 27th - Camo or Hunting Day (wear your favorite camo or hunting attire).
Coming up in February, DWA testing for 5th graders.

Antimony Elementary receives visit from State Superintendent Larry Shumway!
Antimony Elementary had the honor of hosting State Superintendent Larry Shumway, Deputy Superintendent Martell Menlove, and Administrative Secretary Tina Morandy of the Utah State Office of Education on September 1, 2011. Garfield County School District Superintendent Ben Dalton and School Board President Ken Platt accompanied the state officials to Antimony. During their visit to the school district, Superintendent Dalton invited the state officials to come to Antimony and view first-hand how a rural school can educate students successfully in a small, classroom setting. Antimony Elementary School, located in Antimony, is a two-room schoolhouse with seventeen students, Kindergarten through 6th grade. Head Teacher, Julie Allen is the only teacher at the school but is assisted in her duties by paraprofessionals, Natalie Porter, Anja Lowe, and Jamey Gleave. The school was selected to be visited because of the high CRT (Criterion Reference Tests) scores from the 2010-2011 school year. 100% of the students were proficient in the tested areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Julie Allen and her staff were commended by the visitors for their hard work and dedication to the education of the students in Antimony. Antimony Elementary has also received state recognition as a High Performing Title I School for the past three years.
